Action Alert!April 18, 2003 OPEN RECORDS FOR GEORGIA JUST DAYS AWAY!!!!!GEORGIA SB-192 HAS BEEN PLACED ON THE CALENDAR FOR VOTE BY THE GEORGIA HOUSE NEXT TUESDAY, APRIL 22nd. YOUR HELP IS NEEDED TO CONVINCE THE REPRESENTATIVES TO SUPPORT ADOPTEE RIGHTS AND COUNTER NCFA MISINFORMATIONGeorgia SB-192, which will provide adult adoptees who were born and adopted in Georgia with unconditional access to their original birth certificates, was released from the Rules Committee for vote by the House of Representatives. This legislation has already passed the Senate by unanimous vote, and the Governor has acknowledged that he will sign the bill. YOUR HELP IS URGENTLY NEEDED TO MAKE GEORGIA THE FIFTH STATE TO PROVIDE ADULT ADOPTEES WITH UNRESTRICTED ACCESS TO THEIR OWN ORIGINAL BIRTH CERTIFICATES! Even if you are not personally impacted by this legislation, what happens in one state DOES impact efforts in other states. Open records for Georgia will enhance efforts to pass similar laws elsewhere! Please contact all of the members of the Georgia House of Representatives by phone, FAX, and e-mail and urge them to support the right of adult adoptees to obtain their own original birth certificates. Also, let them know that open records for adult adoptees does not cause more abortions and is not detrimental to adoption. The National Council for Adoption (NCFA) is actively lobbying the Georgia House with this misinformation, and it needs to be countered as aggressively as possible.
