Connecticut adoptees need your help today
Please contact all members of Connecticut Senate the today!
DO PASS SB 977
SB 977, a bill to restore Original Birth Certificate access to Connecticut adopted before October 1, 1983, is moving in the Senate. Currently those adopted after that date enjoy full unrestricted access, but numerous attempts to “even the playing filed ” by restoring the right of all adopted Connecticuters to access their OBSs have failed.
Earlier this month SB 977, to which OBC access language was added passed favorably from the Senate Planning and Development Committee and the Office of Legislative Research and may be on it’s way to the Senate floor for a vote. ,Access Connecticut (not affiliated with BN) has designated Wednesday, April 19, as SB 977 Lobby Day. Supporters will meet in person at the statehouse to discuss the bill with legislators. Those who cannot attend in person can write letters or make calls of support, Bastard Nation urges its members to join this effort and to call. write, or visit to express support.

The bill:
• restores the right of Original Birth Certificate access to those adopted before October 23,1983. without restriction.
• permits the release of the OBC to an adoptee’s adult child or grandchild.
• clarifies that a person born outside of Connecticut, but adopted in Connecticut has the right to information on their birth certificate
• contains a genuine voluntary Contact Preference form similar to those found in Oregon, Alabama, New Hampshire, Maine, and Rhode Island.
• Makes OBC access uniform for all Connecticut adoptees

Please join Rhode Island, Maine, Alabama, Oregon, New Hampshire, Colorado and Hawaii in restoring equal civil rights for adult citizens who were adopted as children. Kansas and Alaska have always had equality for ALL citizens.
