Bastard Nation Statement of Opposition to New York A5036: The same old same old!

[1]A5036 [2]was introduced in the New York Assembly  on February 6, 2017 by Rep. David Weprin.  It is the same dirty bill that was flogged last session (see  BN Leg page 2016 [3]for details) and shuttled off to limbo after it was soundly denounced by adoptees and their families in New York and around the country.   The bill contains a  Disclosure Veto with birthparent notification of request,  OBC redaction,  and even, in some cases ADOPTIVE PARENT in-put.

Bill points:

As of this writing the bill is in the Assembly Health Committee.
Bastard Nation believes that A5036 is irredeemable. It will not and cannot be amended to  clean access. We believe that A5036 is a dangerous bill that if passed, will adversely effect OBC access and adoptee equality throughout the United States. The bill has received little publicity so far, and we believe Rep. Weprin and a handful of NYS deformers hope to sneak pass the bill while the focus of the country is on the Trump administration and national and international issues.

At this time Bastard Nation is not issuing an action alert.  We urge, however,  New York and New York-connected adoptees to contact  sponsors (whose names can be found on the NY Assembly legislative page) to withdraw support for A5036 and return a clean bill that advocates adoptee equality and OBC access without restriction.
