Christy Little, the other Co-Chair of Louisiana Adoption Advocates, is the first to face the cameras. She explains how the closed records system in Louisiana denies adoptees the basic information that most non-adopted people take for granted. Currently, adult adopted citizens must file a lawsuit in juvenile court and show a compelling need if they want to receive their original birth certificate. It is a long and drawn-out process. There is no guarantee, even after spending all that time and money, that the adoptee's request for the most fundamental facts about their own origins will be granted. |

Christy then turned the microphone over to Kenny Tucker. He said that rather than filing a lawsuit, adoptees should be able to access their own birth information upon request from Vital Statistics -- just like everyone else. | |

In order to make that happen, we have to change the law. And that means educating the public and perhaps most importantly, the legislators, about our issue. Kenny summed it up beautifully, "It's our records. It's our right." |
