BASTARD NATION ACTION ALERT

 Louisiana HB 450

URGENT!

March 22, 2022

Louisiana adoptees need your help immediately!

Please contact Louisiana House members today!

____________

HB 450 passed the House Committee on Law and Procedure on March 22.

Now it’s up to the full House to decide.

A vote may come as early as Thursday, March 24, 2022

HB 450 is a clean bill that restores the right of all Louisiana-born adoptees at the age of 24 to obtain a copy of their Original Birth Certificates upon request without restrictions or conditions.  Because of the “forced heir” law, peculiar to the State of Louisiana and no other state, we are stuck with the 24 age specification, but so far, everyone is covered. The proposed chair amendment to add restrictions was never attached or engrossed and did not make it out of committee

Read HB 450 here.

Read a comparison between the current law and the proposed law here.

Read Bastard Nation’s submitted testimony to the House Judiciary Committee here.

Then Act!

Tell the  House to retain the original language of the bill– pass the bill as written

Keep your letter short and concise

If you are a Louisiana-born adoptee, tell them.

If you are adopted, tell them.

If you have a Louisiana connection tell, them

If you are a birthmother, tell them.

Remember, this bill is about adoptee civil rights and the restoration of the right for all adopted people  obtain their own original birth certificates. It is not about search and reunion, claims of birthmother “confidentiality,”  or abortion.
