OBC Release Statistics for the Free States of Bastard Nation.
Since the passage of Bastard Nation’s historic Oregon Ballot Measure 58 in 2000, over 22,000 OBCs have been released to adoptees there and in the six other states which unsealed records with no restrictions in the wake of that victory. Kansas and Alaska which never sealed records does not keep stats.
Don’t be fooled! Illinois, Tennessee, Delaware, Massachusetts, Montana, New Jersey, and Washington are not free states. Some adoptees in those states can access their OBCs, but others are black holed by restrictions such as a Disclosure Veto or are denied access by a nonsensical tiered access system which denies (or releases) OBCs depending on the date of birth or date of adoption finalization of the adoptee.
When possible, these stats are linked directly to state statistic pages; other the links go to state OBC access information pages.
