  • March 14, 2020: With the focus necessarily on our own health and the health of our families and communities, we will be reducing updates on the new law and its implementation, meaning we may not be as responsive to questions or concerns. Some of us are already directly impacted by COVID-19, whether that relates to job loss, school closings, or health issues. Please be patient and also take care of yourselves. We also suggest giving the DOH a break for a bit, as both the city and state work .through staffing issues related to the complex needs that go far beyond the issuance of original birth certificates for adoptees. NYARC will suspend contacting the DOH for updates on our issue because of the need of the health departments to manage a global crisis, hitting very closely in New York. Our message to you is this: be patient, be cautious, take necessary precautions and focus on your health and the health of others. We will still be here but we’ll be doing the same as you: hoping that COVID-19 becomes manageable and doing what we can to prevent its spread.

  • March 31, 2020:  We have heard from several adoptees that NY CITY is suspending processing of OBC applications until government resumes under typical circumstances. We assume the same is true of the State. As stated in our previous post, NYARC suspended communication with our DOH contacts when the COVID pandemic began in NY. Please don’t contact either department unless it’s absolutely necessary. Be patient, be cautious, take necessary precautions and focus on your health and the health of others.
