Adoptee Rights Marches Through Georgia: SB64 passes out of the Senate Children & Families Committee

by Marley Greiner

On February 28, 2023, Georgia made a substantial step in the battle to restore OBC access in the state. The Senate Children and Families Committee voted unanimously Do PASS on SB64, a clean unrestrictive-unconditional bill. Next Stop: Senate Rules for consideration to be scheduled for a vote before the full Senate The bill must pass and crossover to the House no later than March 6, 2023.

Bastard Nation has worked in several campaigns over the last two decades to bring Georgia into the  Bastard fold, and this is the first time something eccentric didn’t block the road.

Times have changed, and Georgia adoptees could be on the verge of victory this year, The Georgia Alliance for Adoptee Rights has done splendid due diligence and gathered an impressive list of supporters.  It has been a pleasure to work with them. The list is so long in fact, that I’ll just post the link here. Also, scroll to the bottom of the front page for others, There is no known organized opposition, and traditional opponents have agreed  not to oppose.

Here are a couple of links to use to catch up with Georgia taken from the Bastard Nation Georgia State page. This page also contains some history of the movement there.

  • The State of Georgia needs to let us adoptees, open our OBC. I have a divine right to know WHO,WHERE,WHY and the names of my birth parents, and to know my medical information. The 58 year old secret time is up. Georgia do something for once that’s not 50 shades of hill billy.

  • Laughable comment. Guess y’all need some So Cali advocating to get your stuff done. What a group of clod hoppers.. 🤣

    • Actually, a lot is being done. The bill is dead for this year for starters, but will return next year. That was was done through the work of a lot of diverse people and organizations. lackey, btw, will never have a clean bill.

  • That bills been dead way before now. So over GA. Grateful for PI’s. and progressive states that leave GA in the dust.
    Warmest regards and future endeavors!
