Hearing scheduled for March 9, 2018
HB 5408, a bill to restore Original Birth Certificate access to Connecticut adoptees adopted before October 1, 1983, is scheduled for a hearing in the House Judicuary Committee on Friday, March 9, 2018.
Currently those adopted on or after October 1, 1983 enjoy full unrestricted access, but numerous attempts to “even the playing field ” by restoring the right of all adopted Connecticuters to access their OBSs have failed.
Bastard Nation urges its members to join this effort and to submit testimony and attend the session, if possible, to show support

The bill:
• restores the right of Original Birth Certificate access to those adopted before October 1, 1983. without restriction.
• permits the release of the OBC to an adoptee’s adult child or grandchild.
• contains a genuine voluntary Contact Preference form similar to those found in Oregon, Alabama, New Hampshire, Maine, and Rhode Island.
• Makes OBC access uniform for all Connecticut adoptees
Support from everywhere is needed. If you were born and/or adopted in Connecticut, currently live there, or have connections to the state, however, please include that information with your request. Be sure to include your address.
The timeframe for submission of testimony is short. Send no later than March 8, 2018 to guarantee that your testimony is posted online and committee members read your support before the hearing.
