New York: S3419 Makes History: Passes out of Senate Health Committee!

by Marley Greiner

BULLETIN:  Bastards made history this morning!

S3419, the Senate version of the Weprin/.Montgomery bill passed out of the Senate Health Committee with flying colors and a shout out from Sen Gustavo Rivera (D-33). This is the first time an unrestricted, unconditional bill has come this far in New York.

Bastard Nation and NYARC’s Toff Phillipo and Annette O’Connell with Sen, Gustavo Rivera (D-33), Rivera gave S3419 and BN a shout out at the hearing: why wouldn’t he vote for this because of all the groups in support PLUS a group named Bastard Nation!

Bastard Nation’s letter to the Health Committee is here.

The bill has been placed on the Senate Calendar for a First Read (yay!) No date is set, but it could be as early as next week!

A hip hip hooray for NYARC, Bastard Nationals, friends and allies, Rep, David Weprin, and Sen Velmanette Montgomery for bringing this all together.

Video of vote. Includes Sen Rivera’s shoutout.  Added May 22, 2019.

  • YEAH!!!! One step closer to being treated as everyone else!

  • As a first mother who just celebrated 43 years in reunion with the daughter I found, I am beyondd thrilled.
Although this success has taken so many years since I began advocating in in the 1970’s, I cannot minimize how wonderful to note our advancement.
We, in my family are fortunate in that I had my daughter’s hospital birth certificate to give to her and have been able to give her our family’s heritage and medical information, ALL adopted people more than deserve the same.
