URGENT: New York A5036B: Join the voices of adoptees and allies across the country. Please sign letter to Andrew Cuomo to veto bill

by Marley Greiner

As you probably know, the New York Legislature recently passed A5036, a bill posing as a open records measure that in fact reinforces  and maintains the state’s long-standing sealed OBC system.  The bill received no hearing and was opposed by every adoptee equality and adoption reform organization in the country. Bastard Nation and the Adoptee Rights Law Center came together to create a Joint Letter to New York Governor Andrew Cuomo asking him to veto the bill.

The Joint Letter to  Gov.  Cuomo is  live and online. Already the American Adoption Congress, CUB, and the Donaldson Adoption Institute along with state adoptee rights organizations  individuals have signed on. Please join us.

The letter contains a mechanism for you to indicate if you are signing as an authorized agent of an organization or group or you can sign as an individual.  Your choice—and, of course you can do both!

There will be a delay before your endorsement appears online since we are checking signatures to avoid “Adoptyface McAdopty.” Please contact me if your endorsement doesn’t post in a reasonable amount of time. (maddogmarley@att.net).

You may want to read Greg Luce’s latest blog. Let’s do some New York math. The State of New York not only wants to keep access to adoptee birth certificates restricted and sealed, it wants the state’s taxpayers to foot the bill which will run in the millions!
Please distribute information and the links to other organizations, friends, and allies.
Please contact Gov. Cuomo directly, too.  The more who respond to this travesty, the better.

Let our voices be heard loud and clear in Albany.
Thanks so much to all of you for making this happen.
